A Taste of Authentic Seville in the Heart of Casco Antiguo
We love wandering through Seville’s old town, and Casa Belmonte caught our eye during one of those strolls. Leaving from the Cathedral, we walked along Calle Mateos Gago — a lively, narrow street lined with buzzing tapas bars, artisan shops, and restaurants. The street feels alive with chatter and clinking glasses, and the Giralda tower loomed beautifully ahead. It was spring, not too hot, perfect for soaking up the local atmosphere before settling in for some Andalusian flavours.
Casa Belmonte, also known as Taberna Belmonte, sits right in the middle of this vibrant scene. Step inside and you’re immediately surrounded by the charm of a traditional Sevillian tavern. The walls are decorated with vintage bullfighting memorabilia — sepia photos and impressive mounted bull heads.
We really loved seeing the bull heads up close; it's not something you come across every day, and it gave the place a strong sense of local character. The dark wooden furniture and warm, soft lighting made the whole space feel cosy but full of life.
The vibe is bustling and lively, especially outside where tables spill onto the pavement, perfect for people-watching along the busy street. Inside, the back dining room was quieter when we visited, giving us a peaceful spot to enjoy our meal without losing the tavern's inviting warmth.
Casa Belmonte's menu offers a brilliant mix of classic Sevillian and Andalusian dishes with a touch of modern creativity. Expect bold, honest flavours from fresh, quality ingredients. The wine list impressed too, with a solid selection and even bottles available to take home.
We started with a refreshing gazpacho — a cool, tomato-based drink that set the tone for a genuine Andalusian experience.
Our first tapas plate was simple but full of flavour: dressed tomatoes, bright and fresh with a drizzle of olive oil.
Then came the stewed bull tail, cooked in a traditional sauce that was rich and tender. This dish was a highlight — authentic and hearty, just as we hoped.
Next up were fried eggs topped with cured ham, served with fries. The combination was perfectly balanced, with the salty ham cutting through the creamy eggs and crispy fries.
To finish, we shared a baked goat cheese served on olive oil and rosemary toast, drizzled with honey and tomato jam. It was rich and satisfying, a perfect end to our meal.
Presentation was rustic yet thoughtful, with each plate colourful and inviting. Portions were generous without being overwhelming. The cooking showed real skill—flavours true to the region, and textures spot on. You can tell the kitchen values fresh ingredients and careful technique.
Service matched the food’s quality. The staff were warm, welcoming, and efficient, keeping our drinks topped up and offering recommendations. Even though the place was busy outside, we never felt rushed.
One interesting tidbit from their website sums up Casa Belmonte well: it's a bodega dedicated to the great bullfighter Belmonte, blending traditional cuisine with a modern touch. This mix comes through in the food and the atmosphere—respect for history with a lively, current edge.
We left very satisfied, having enjoyed a meal that was as much about culture as it was about flavour. This isn’' your everyday brunch spot, but if you want to experience genuine Andalusian cooking in a vibrant, friendly setting, Casa Belmonte is well worth a visit.
Prices felt fair for the quality and experience, offering good value without feeling pricey.
The only downside we noticed is the lack of online booking. At the moment, you can only walk in or call ahead, which can make planning a bit tricky.
Casa Belmonte suits casual tapas outings, relaxed dinners with friends or family, and anyone eager to taste real Seville in an authentic yet lively spot. It's perfect for social evenings, informal celebrations, or just soaking up local life with a plate of good food.
If you're exploring Seville’s historic centre, don't miss the chance to drop in here. The mix of atmosphere, history, and flavour will leave you glad you did.
